Dam to Dam Regatta report
On Saturday, May 14, the Outlaws participated in the inaugural Dam to Dam Regatta on Tempe Town Lake. Despite the name, the course was a loop of about 3km, in the middle section of the lake. Most types of human-powered boats on the lake turned out to compete: kayaks of all sizes, canoes, outrigger canoes, dragonboats, and of course rowers:

The turnout from the rowers was a little light this year, but there were two eights, a junior four, two mens’ doubles, two mixed doubles, two men’s and one woman’s singles. We found there is a major advantage to participating in a race for all types of watercraft: this one had sponsors and thus … swag! All participants were given an inaugural medal for participating, a T-shirt, and a Hawaiian barbeque lunch, and other stuff including water bottles, carabiner keychains, and mini Cliff bars (I wish they sold those). The participation medals hung on a red, white and blue ribbon; first place finishers won medals that were similar but hung on blue ribbons. As you can see, the Outlaws did well:

Ted and Chris won for the M2x, Eva and Dave for the Mx2x, and Paula for the (only) W1x.
